Development started at ZSNES in 1997, and while it became popular, it is still in frequent use as one of the least accurate emulators. Similar to the emulators above, the execution is absolutely horrible. There are, however, a few excellent reasons to keep a copy around.
If you want to check out some SNES ROM hacks that are fan changes to existing games, you're going to run into issues with high-accuracy emulators like bsnes or SNES9x. Because ZSNES was so popular before SNES ROM hacks and ROM hacking tools became available, many of them used the emulator to check their games. That means that many ROM hacks have not been designed with precision in mind, but around the peculiarities of ZSNES, so that they only work well (or at all) in this emulator.
